Susan Orlean’s Top 40 Books
Susan Orlean recently tweeted about the forty books that changed her life, and I noticed that a good handful matched some of my own absolute favorties, should I ever compile such a list, namely: The Hours by Michael Cunningham, Ulysses by James Joyce, The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro, The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, “all of Virginia Woolf,” “all of Didion,” “The Wasteland” by T. S. Eliot. If she swapped out Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez for One Hundred Years of Solitude I’d begin to suspect we were sisters…
