Archie Hind: 1928-2008

Archie Hind, the author of A Dear Green Place, died last week in Glasgow, just a few days before this groundbreaking work, his only complete published novel, was due to be reprinted. Hind’s 1966 novel about Mat, the slaughterhouse boy from Glasgow who yearns to be a writer, was strongly autobiographical. It’s critical success was so high that Hind suffered chronic writer’s block for decades after. Read more in the Scotsman.
